Alexa Canady is a new to surgeon and a surgeon educater. She's an African American women that accomplished two honorary degrees. She won children's hospital of Michigan's teacher of the year award in 1984. Also Michigan women's hall of fame in 1989.
She was the first African American women in the United States to become a neurosurgeon. Alexa Canady retired after 30 years as a surgeon. She has a brother that when they were little they were the only black kids in the rural elementary school.
Alexa Irene Canady born to Elizabeth Hortense, Canady and Clinton Canady Jr. on November 7, 1950 in Lansing Michigan. Both colleges educated her father a graduate of the School of Dentistry of Meharry Medical College, highly respected Dentist in Lansing. Her mother a graduate of Fiasco University, and formerly active in civic affairs of Lansing. She also served as national president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
