Ibn al-Haytham was born ca.965-1039 and lived in Basra Persia which is now known as Iraq.
His fields of study were anatomy, astronomy, engineering, medicine, philosophy, and physics. He made major contributions in each study. He also laid foundations for development of the microscope, introduced experimentation, and his was the first description of a camera obscura.
Some other additional information is that his text, The Book of Optics, regards as being responsible for a revolution in the study of optics and visual perception.
