Albert Vinicio Baez was a medical engineer; he was an immigrant from Mexico. One of Mr. Baez's scientific accomplishments was he won the Dennis Gabor award in 1991. Another accomplishment was he invented the first x-ray microscope for examination of living cells. It's still used today!
Another life accomplishment was he accepted a job at MIT. His whole family moved to the Boston area. Also he was asked to help make machinery during the Cold War however he refused. He didn't want to do this because of his religious beliefs. In 1960 he started working at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, MA., where he developed a x-ray telescope.
Mr. Baez had some really cool background and personal life such as, he graduated from Syracuse in 1935 with his masters degree. Then in 1950 he graduated Stanford with a Ph.D. He got married moved to California. He and his wife were Quakers. They had 3 girls, Pauline Baez, Joan Baez (the rock star), and Mimi Baez. In 1949, he accepted a job at Cornell University. He later accepted a job in 1961 in Paris (UNESCO), working as the science teacher director.
