Patricia Bath was born in Harlem, New York, November 4, 1942. Patricia Bath is the first African American to complete a residency in Ophthalmology, and the first African American female to receive a medical patent. She invented the Laserphaco Probe for cataract treatment in 1986.
After graduating from high school in only 2 years Patricia Bath headed to Howard University, Hunter College to get a bachelor's degree in 1964. She was very successful and started to become an inventor.
Additionally Patricia Bath became the first African American to be a residency in Ophthalmology. At age 16 Patricia Bath was one of the few females to attend a cancer research foundation workshop.
