George Washington Carver was a black American botanist and inventor who was born into slavery in Diamond Grove, Missouri, now known as Diamond, Missouri. His discoveries have changed the way that modern farmers live. His exact date of birth is unknown but it is theorized to be in either January 1861, or January 1864.
As an adult he was an amazing inventor and botanist who discovered researched alternative cotton crops such as peanuts, soybeans, sweet potatoes, and many more. He also discovered over 300 uses for peanuts including 105 food recipes and over 100 useful peanut products for around the house and farm including but not limited to: cosmetics, dyes, paints, plastics, gasoline, and nitroglycerin.
He went to college at Iowa State Agricultural College in Ames, but only after going to Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa and getting rejected from Highland college because of race. Later he worked at Tuskegee Institute where he headed the Agricultural Department thanks to Booker T. Washington.
Even though George Washington Carver was born a slave in Diamond Grove, Missouri he grew up to be a wonderful botanist and inventor who made many amazing inventions and helped farmers countrywide. He died on January 5, 1943 (aged 79) in Tuskegee, Alabama, U.S.
